The Negative Supply 4×5 Light Source Pro is the latest light source in our “Pro” line of tools. It follows our popular 5×7 Light Source Pro, but with a more compact design. This dedicated light source is perfect for users scanning 35mm, 120, and 4×5 film, and maintains the same high-quality build. With 97 CRI and 99 CRI options, it is suitable for all users, even those working with the most vibrant and intricately detailed film.

Our new 4×5 Light Source Pro offers comparable brightness and improved light evenness compared to our outgoing 5×7 model, while also being more efficiently built and sized. The construction is more robust and the price is significantly lower, making it a great option for those using focal lengths longer than 90mm to prevent light fall off on the edges and achieve the correct angle of view.

How CRI and TCLI Should be Used to Compare Light Sources for Film Scanning Purposes:

CRI is a metric used to tell us how a light source renders color based on human perception. What this does not tell us is how this light will render on film or in our case, a digital camera. The TCLI value will give us a more complete view of color accuracy and more directly relates to film scanning.

CRI is often the metric given when comparing light sources in our industry, though TCLI is perhaps more critical.

The TLCI value is averaged from the 24 colors from the MacBeth Color Checker Chart with the maximum value of 100 being the best. Light sources that score a 90 or higher are often seen as high quality light sources that will cut down on post production time.

After extensive testing by our R&D team the following statistics are available:

• 99 CRI Model: Scored a 99.0 for TCLI and 99.2 CRI
• 97 CRI Model: Scored a 98.0 for TCLI and 97.3 CRI

The 4×5 Light Source Pro comes with two options 97 CRI and 99 CRI. Both of these options are exceedingly color accurate with the 99 CRI option being as close to perfect color reproduction possible. The 97 CRI light source is ideal for black and white, C41 and Slide film with high color accuracy while the 99 CRI light source is made for the most discerning user that demands the best without exception.
