24.2MP APS-C Exmor CMOS Sensor and BIONZ X Processor

The 24.2MP APS-C-format Exmor CMOS sensor provides high sensitivity of ISO 100-32000, expandable to ISO 102400 for low-light shooting. This sensor features a unique design with thin copper wiring, improved circuit processing, and an enhanced front-end LSI for improved light-gathering and reduced noise. Additionally, the sensor and BIONZ X processor combination enable a top continuous-shooting speed of 11 fps with AF and AE, or up to 8 fps with a silent shutter, and allow for 14-bit raw file output for wider tonal and color range.

UHD 4K Video Recording in XAVC S Format

Utilizing the full width of the sensor, the Sony a6400 Mirrorless Camera with 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 II Lens allows for internal recording of UHD 4K video at various frame rates up to 30 fps in 8-bit 4:2:0 color sampling using the 100Mbps XAVC S codec. For even greater detail, oversampled 4K recording is available, utilizing a 6K capture area within the Super 35 area for a full pixel readout that minimizes pixel binning and produces higher quality, moir- and aliasing-free imagery.

Featuring customizable color and gamma controls, the a6400 offers users the ability to adjust the gamma, black level, knee, color level, and more. Utilize the same S-Log2 Gamma Curve utilized by high-end Sony Cinema cameras, which compresses up to 1300% more dynamic range into the video signal than traditional Rec. 709, providing greater flexibility in post-production. HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) support and the BT.2020 color space are also included for recording in a wide color gamut. In addition to S-Log2, S-Log3 is also available, allowing for a 14-stop dynamic range and enhanced grading control in the shadow and mid-tone areas of the image.

The camera offers 4K recording with 4:2:2 sampling, thanks to uncompressed HDMI output and the ability to use an external recorder in addition to its high-resolution internal recording.

• Create time-lapse movies easily with the Interval Shooting mode and Imaging Edge software. Choose intervals from 1-60 seconds and capture up to 9999 consecutive frames.
• Capture stunning 8MP stills while recording 4K video by extracting frames from footage and saving them as individual files.
